James Halliday, August 2003.  (Return to Vintage Detail)

2002 Two Hands The Wolf Riesling – 94/100
Light straw-green; the intense citrus and herb bouquet has excellent varietal fruit, the long, very intense and powerful palate, with a lemony! citrussy finish, lives up to the reputation of the vintage, although like all the wines under the Two Hands label, is certainly fully priced.

2002 Two Hands Angel's Share McLaren Vale Shiraz – 90/100
Strong red-purple; a spotlessly clean mix of blackberry and dark chocolate aromas flow into a mouth filling array of black fruits and dark chocolate, supported by excellent tannin and extract management; precisely judged oak inputs. Medium-bodied, and doubtless intended for early consumption. Stelvin closure.

2002 Two Hands Brave Faces Barossa Valley Shiraz Grenache – 92/100
Youthful red-purple; sweet blackberry and redcurrant aromas marry with subtle oak on the bouquet; the rich, soft and round palate has no lolly/confection/jam characters, so often the Achilles heel of grenache. Overall, has excellent texture and structure, even if it does shorten fractionally on the finish. Stelvin capped.

2001 Two Hands Ares Barossa Valley Shiraz – 94/10 0
Medium to full red-purple; the rich and complex bouquet has ripe, but not the least jammy, black fruits with hints of earth and vanilla; an extremely powerful, savoury palate has layers of blackberry fruit with built-in tannins; great length and cohesion; a minimum ten-year proposition. A trendy label where the front (meaningless except for its graphics) is the back, and vice versa.

2001Two Hands Lily's Garden Shiraz – 91/100
Medium to full red-purple; the clean and ripe spice, plum and black chocolate aromas of the bouquet lead into a lush, juicy palate which does not, however, go over the top; nice wine. Sourced from McLaren Vale.

2001 Two Hands Sophie's Garden Shiraz - 88/100
Excellent colour; a cascade of black cherry, earth, spice and mint aromas is followed by a very concentrated, almost soupy, palate which needs to resolve its contradictions.
