Barney's Block comes from a mature vineyard in the heart of McLaren Vale. The wine was matured for 22 months in one year old French oak and possesses a soft velvety texture rarely seen in a McLaren Vale.

2009 YESTERDAY'S HERO
Colour Bright, yet deep brick red
AromaThis has the lively characters of red fruits, roses, strawberries and cream, sappy notes from the stalk inclusion, bracken and an underlying meatiness
PalateThe palate starts out very subtle with an entry of red fruits and spice. The juiciness builds through the mid palate resulting in a dense fleshy character running through to the finish supported by chewy yet somewhat creamy tannins and subtle French oak. The wine craves good food on a sunny afternoon.
Coming from 3 particular vineyards ranging from 35 to 80 years old, the fruit was destemmed and crushed with each parcel receiving 25% whole bunches. The mild year allowed the stems to ripen well, resulting in them exhibiting sweet talc characters with no bitterness. After several days of cold maceration the musts were warmed for fermentation with temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius and plunged 4 times per day through the peak. At the end of fermentation the wine was tasted daily and after an average of 18 days the batches were drained and pressed with the pressings being combined with the free run.
Drink now of over the next 8 to 10 years. Decanting recommended.
Matured in older French hogsheads for 14 months before being blended and bottled.
