Nick Stock's Barossa Valley Report - 10 wines above 90!

In late August 2020 we were thrilled to welcome Nick Stock to visit Two Hands. After taking in the vineyards with our Viticulturist Travis Coombe, he sat down to taste a few of our wines with our winemaker Richard Langford.

Nick has been a staple of the Australian wine writing fraternity for over 20 years and it was his first trip to Two Hands.
He’s is Executive Editor alongside  James Suckling and all his reviews are posted on his website www.jamesuckling.com

Two Hands Shiraz Barossa Valley Holy Grail Single Vineyard 2018 – 95 Points
“This is a bold, rich style that is very much driven by the elevated ridgeline location, along the western edge of the Seppeltsfield hamlet. The aromas are in the black-fruit zone with dark plums and blackberries framed in licorice, asphalt and chocolate. The palate has silky tannins and flavors of dark plums, blackberries, orange peel and black cherries. Very much a fruit-focused style. Long and plush finish. Drink or hold.”

Two Hands Riesling Eden Valley The Boy 2020 – 94 Points – released late October
“This is a very fresh, pristine and concentrated riesling with lemon, grapefruit and light white-peach aromas, as well as a gently spicy edge. The palate is succulent, long and dry with piercing lemon flavors. Drink or hold. Screw cap.”

Two Hands Shiraz Adelaide Burnside Waterfall Gully 2018 – 93 Points
“Attractive aromas of mulberries, pomegranate, blood oranges and red plums here. Some wet stones, too. The palate tastes of poached plums and mulberries with a bright, fleshy mid-section that’s framed in a silky wrap of fine tannin. Drink or hold.”

Two Hands Shiraz McLaren Vale Lily’s Garden 2018 – 93 Points
“This has a bold feel with plenty of rich dark plums, blackberries and hints of cocoa. The palate is ripe, fleshy and mouth-filling with long, dark-fruit flavors. Plum-stone finish. Drink or hold.”

Two Hands Shiraz Eden Valley Charlie’s Garden 2018 – 93 Points
“This has a spicy layer of cloves, brown pepper and cardamom with violets and blueberries, as well as crushed stones. The palate has a sense of elegance and focus with fine, long and silky tannins carrying fresh red-plum and berry flavors. Some chocolate to close. Drink or hold.”

Two Hands Shiraz Barossa Valley Bella’s Garden 2018 – 92 Points
“There are plenty of ripe raspberry, blueberry, violet and red-plum aromas on offer here. Really exuberant fruit focus. The palate is plush and fleshy with ripe red plums, blackberries and blueberries. Smoothly rendered tannins. Drink or hold.”

Two Hands Shiraz McLaren Vale Angels’ Share 2019 – 92 Points
“This has a ripe, red and dark-plum nose with blackberries and complimentary oak spice. Some gently earthy notes, too. The palate has almost liqueur-like red-plum and cherry flavors with dark chocolate to close. Great drinking now. Screw cap.”

Two Hands Shiraz Barossa Valley Gnarly Dudes 2019 – 91 Points
“Very rich, open-knit aromas here with ripe raspberries and blackberries given full voice. The palate’s silky mouth feel carries plenty of blackberry and dark-plum flavor. Drink or hold. Screw cap.”

Two Hands Shiraz Clare Valley Fields of Joy 2019 – 91 Points – released late 2020
“This has a deep, dark-plum, earth and chocolate nose with some Australia-bushland, leafy and woody notes, too. The palate is boldly flavored with rich dark plums and has a ripe core of tannin that delivers a mid-weight shape. Drink or hold. Screw cap.”

Two Hands Mourvedre Barossa Trusty Rusty Rosé 2020 – 91 Points released Oct 2020
“Bright florals and peaches with a light raspberry edge, too. The palate has attractively creamy texture and plenty of bright strawberry and watermelon flavor. Drink now. Screw cap.”
