Introducing the 2017 Garden Series

Two Hands set out its stall in its early years with a unique spotlight on regionality through the looking glass of Australia’s signature grape, Shiraz. The story of the six regions of the Garden Series became the true essence of the Two Hands story from 2003 vintage onwards that has continued to this day.

The release of the 2016 vintage in December marks a milestone in the journey as a new line-up is revealed. Charlie’s Garden, Eden Valley, and Harriet’s Garden, Adelaide Hills, have been added to the series, continuing the tradition of showcasing just how diverse the same grape variety can be from different regions. The two additions are cooler climate styles of Shiraz and distinctly contrast the more powerful wines from Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley and Heathcote.

Eden Valley is a fascination for Michael with its verdant pastures just 15 minutes drive from the Marananga home of Two Hands, but climatically and stylistically worlds apart. We’ve been sourcing from an elevated vineyard high up in Eden Valley since 2011, and the memory of the first batch of grapes arriving in the winery that year remains fresh – grower Joel arriving in his ute just before midnight, a couple of tonnes in the back that on tasting exuded an incredible floral aroma that now sets Charlie’s Garden apart from anything else in the stable.

Adelaide Hills is a more recent grape source, but after a couple of years of trialling it in the winery, we are ready to go. From a vineyard next to Hope Forest, this is a site that we harvest late, allowing slow development of ripeness and tannin. Harriet’s Garden in 2016 was produced in tiny volumes so to get a taste you’ll need to get signed up to the Wine Club or be quick at Cellar Door.

The addition of Charlie’s and Harriet’s completes the family unit for the Twelftrees; the younger siblings honoured to see their new colours of lime green and pink proudly displayed on the labels.
