Sourced from a small mature vineyard high in the Barossa western ranges, this wine displays an amazing aromatic profile, soft mouth-feel with wonderful structure and very silky tannins.

  • Tasting Notes

    Colour
Deep dark red with a purple hue.

    Aroma
Notes of crushed blackberry, black olive, pepper steak, roast nuts and dried rose petal.

    Palate
Medium to full bodied with lots of energy and lift along the palate. Notes of briar and blackberry bush buoyed by fresh mulberries, fresh hung meat and a patina of cracked black pepper emerge through the mid-palate. Gentle caressing tannins roll along fleshing out and tightening with air. Extended lees contact provides a fleshy creamy drive through to the late palate. Lovely and long with loads of nuance. Emerges slightly floral along the finish with hints of dried rose petal.

  • Wine Making

One small parcel from this single block was crushed and de-stemmed into a single 5-tonne open top fermenter. The time spent on skins was 12 days, with the fermentation lasting seven days. All free run and pressings were combined in tank and after 24 hours the wine was then racked off gross lees to barrel, where malolactic fermentation occurred. The wine was bottled with minimum fining and no filtration.

    Maturation
19 months in 2-6 year old French oak. 60% thick stave puncheons, 40% hogsheads.

    Cellar Potential
15+ years in ideal cellaring conditions.

Quite superb. Revs of tannin, blooms of dark-berried fruit, smoky nuances, woody spice, malt. It builds and flows, layers and lingers. Structure, flavour, interest, length – this excels at them all.
