This vineyard is a very special and magical place, 500 odd vines based at the top of the Blewitt Springs range. Planted in the 1930s, they just sit there looking so happy and peaceful; the site is beautiful and always mesmerising to visit. These old vines have seen it all and self regulate their canopy and crop, year in and year out. We always find this wine amazingly complex on the bouquet and love the refinement and poise of its fine and succulent tannins.
The bouquet grabs your attention straight from the first whiff, with notes of roasted meats, cherry, rhubarb, fresh cut flowers, potpourri, lavender and menthol.
This wine does not attack but caresses the palate with a wave of gentle and ripe fruits, the tannins are total class with a lovely brightness that hold a lovely sap and clean mouth feel, I rarely find tannins this fine in Australian wine. This wine will be best drunk after decanting and will reward 10 to 15 years in the cellar.
94 Points - James Halliday, Wine Companion, August 2017 86yo vines, hand-picked, 85% whole berries, 15% whole bunches, cold soak, open-fermented, punched down, 14 days on skins, matured for 10 months in French puncheons and a 300l stainless steel barrel. The colour is as light as expected, the medium-bodied palate with a strongly savoury footnote to its red berry fruits. Elegant wine.
