A stunningly beautiful block of very old vines next to the Greenock Creek, based on the classic soil of Greenock red/brown earth that is free draining and clustered with small flecks of ironstone. The vines are situated in a low-lying area that can make it susceptible to seasonal frost. Most importantly, the berry size is consistently small, the flavour is in the dark fruit range, and the tannins created in the wine have a layering and texture that is very rare for an Australian Grenache.

  • Tasting Notes

    Colour
Very bright red with darker hues.

    Aroma
The bouquet holds compelling classical notes of Grenache, with garrigue, cured meats, dried flowers, spice box, clove and warm oil.

    Palate
The palate started out quite reserved but then rushes forward with wave after wave of dense, layered and bright fruits. I really enjoy the fine balance, with it is all held together on a ‘knife’s edge’. The underlying tannins emerge slowly on the late palate and this bottling finishes with a very clean and subtle mouthfeel. There is a lot to love about this bottling, I am sure it will reward 8 to 10 years possibly more in the cellar.

  • Product Reviews
93 Points - James Halliday, Wine Companion, August 2017
Hand-picked, 85% whole berries, 15% whole bunches, cold soak, open-fermented, punched down, 10 days on skins, matured for 10 months in one French puncheon and a 300l stainless steel barrel, 50 dozen made. The combination of Greenock and 13.5% alcohol gives rise to a strange outcome of what appears to be riper fruit.
