Sourced from one of the highest vineyards on top of Menglers Hill, this quintessentially Eden Valley Shiraz has a soft bouquet of red fruits and fresh cut flowers with a moderately powerful fruit profile that finishes with an amazing minerality.

  • Tasting Notes

    Colour
Deep, dark-red with a vibrant purple hue.

    Aroma
Fresh notes of just-picked, blackberry, blackberry pastilles, Asian spice, black peppercorns, dried violet, game meats, and pipe smoke

    Palate
Hits the palate with energy, impact and intense flavours, yet remains focused and linear. Pastille fruits provide brightness, as the flavour amplifies along the length of the palate. Complex notes of oolong tea, dried violet, pipe smoke, and fresh black peppercorns start through the mid-palate and morph through to Asian spice on the late palate. Tannins are chewy yet provide a slight sappy impact from the whole bunch ferment components. The palate runs long filling every crevice. Mineral accents

  • Wine Making

Destemmed but not crushed into three and five tonne, open topped fermenters with 20% of the ferment using whole bunches. Gently punched down and pumped over twice daily to extract colour, flavour and tannin. After a 16 day maceration, the wine was pressed, with free run and light pressings combined to tank, and then barreled down after 24 hours. Malolactic fermentation took place in oak with racking occurring once over 18 months. 25% of the barrels were aged on fine lees.

    Maturation
Aged for 18 months in 1-6 year old French oak, consisting of 25% puncheons, 29% hogsheads and the remainder in concrete tank.

    Cellar Potential
    Up to 15 years
