2019 Hell Freezes Over
Hell Freezes Over is a Chardonnay from single vineyard in Ashton, Adelaide Hills
This is what happens when an old mate rings you out of the blue and tells you he owns one of the best vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, and would I take a look – 30 year old vines of the Gin Gin clone on a steep westerly slope based on sandy loam over sandstone at the superior Ashton end of Piccadilly Valley. After years of saying ‘We’ll make a Chardonnay when Hell Freezes Over’… well here you have it and it’s delicious – MT
Very light golden straw
Notes of green melon, fresh cashew, fresh rye bread, lemon blossom and clotted cream.
Very delicate style of chardonnay, medium bodied, refreshing seam of acidity is complimented by notes of rock melon and honey dew melon. Oak handling subtle and contributes notes of fresh dark bread and toasted oats, with gentle floral notes of citrus blossoms. Interesting notes of lees derived clotted cream and freshly churned butter, provide interesting textural interplay. Notes of spearmint emerge through the finish with a sneaky length. Ensure you decant this wine and serve just shy of cellaring temperature.
