2023 Reviews by Angus Hughson from Vinous

Dave’s Block, McLaren Vale Shiraz 2021 – 95 points
“The brooding 2021 single vineyard Blewitt Springs Shiraz offers impressive subtlety from the get go. Aged meat, spice and old leather aromas are interwoven with a powerful underlay of blackberry and mulberry. The palate then offers up a super tight core of fruit with a strong ferrous edge just starting to emerge on a finish of serious length. The muscular structure and immaculate balance provide the perfect base to enjoy this beauty over the long term.” – AH

Wanderlust, McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2021  – 93+ points
“This unusual yet deadly serious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot from 2021 is built for the long haul. It opens up with brooding and muscular aromas of gravel, blackcurrant and meaty spice wrapped up in a rich blanket of toasty oak. A freight train of study flavour follows with layers of powerful meat stock, soy sauce and granite over lashings of berry fruits. Iron clad tannins sit in strong support to deliver an extended finish. This is monster so be in no hurry.” – AH

Lily’s Garden, McLaren Vale Shiraz 2020  – 92 points
“This 2020 Shiraz ticks all the boxes for McLaren Vale thanks to its impactful layers of fruit – mulberry and blackberry with peat and iron aromas adding the Midas touch, well matched to high quality oak. Punchy flavour follows with lashings of dark berry fruits. There is also a brightness to the acidity which adds vibrancy and helps to tighten up the finish. Good now but better with a couple of years under its belt.” – AH

Sexy Beast, McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 – 92 points
“This deeply coloured 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is open for business and immediately launches into decadent and luscious aromas of blackcurrant jam and dark chocolate but nicely tempered by a gentle leafiness and toasty oak. It continues in the bold, high octane style on the palate with great upfront impact and then lashings of dense, dark berry fruits with serious power and length. Juicy acidity and oak tannins also provide a good backbone to enjoy over the short to medium term.” – AH

Angels’ Share, McLaren Vale Shiraz 2021 – 90 points
“This 2021 Shiraz is unashamedly built to please. It is bursting with vibrant sweet fruits with red cherry, licorice and fruit pastilles delivered with good intensity. That approachability is echoed on the palate with a gentle frame supported by luscious fruits through to a supple finish of decent length.” – AH
